DESCRIPTION
Okay let me start by saying that I am a HUGE fan of this model Porsche. One of the last of the factory widebody, air-cooled models. Market prices for this shape nowadays are six figures with good examples tipping $200k+. The Turbo models even more. They are a rare bird and only getting rarer and increasing in value as time goes by. These will be amazingly sought after cars. They already are really.
This particular C2S was bought about six years ago. The owner had never had any detailing work done on it in that time and the car was definitely showing its age. Being solid black there was also nowhere to hide.

Here is the car as presented. Even with it's years of war damage it still looks amazing

That widebody....

After the wash and decontamination I did some paint depth measurements and lo and behold the car is completely factory. Not a single resprayed panel from what I could tell. Paint depths were on the low side for a car like this, averaging between 90 and 140 microns, but completely understandable being factory. I truly could not believe it. A rare thing just got even rarer! Befores and afters. The paint itself was soft but very workable. I was able to remove more damage than I initially anticipated because of this, whilst still maintaining sympathy towards paint levels and paint longevity. There was a lot of swirling in the paint. I would suggest it probably hasn't had a decent detail in a decade or more.

Pitting in the bonnet under the swirls, indicating this car has been driven (as a car like this really should be). It's no garage queen.

In amongst the swirls there was also some hologramming, obviously from a previous poor detail prior to the current owner buying it.

A lot of scratching in the tops of the guards.

More scuffs and scratches. We start to get an idea here of just how grey the car was and how much more "blackness" has been injected into it from clearing off all this damage.

Deeper scratches which I honestly didn't think I'd be able to pull all the way out, but the paint was just so beautiful and compliant to work with that it didn't put up the least fight. This gave me a good level of confidence to chase out the majority of the damage.

No words really needed here :)

50/50 after the first correction stage. This would be followed up by a refining stage

More deep damage

Again I wasn't expecting to be able to achieve as good a result as I did with this damage. Almost all of it gone. Only a very light rounded remnant was left behind which could only be seen from a specific angle and if you knew it was there

With this you can see a light tick a couple of cm long was the only thing that remained of that quite deep longitudinal scratch on rear guard. Again quite pleased with the result here.

Top of the door handle. Pretty normal to see a fair bit of damage in this area
">
50/50 highlighting the "greyness" of the paint due to scratching and hazing before correction

Mirrors. These were particularly oxidised and you can see the clay prep towel put a bit of marring in due to the softness of the paint.

Grey to black

The badges had years of build-up around them which needed to be removed.

As did the area around the sunroof. Ended up pulling out years of polish residue from the gaps

Final Pics. Two layers of Opti-Coat Pro+. As you're going through these remember that this is factory 1997 paint! A true example of how well these cars can stand the test of time.

I love this shot. It just sums up everything Porsche for me.
