BMW 1M – Valencia Orange
TREATMENT
- Wash & Decontamination
- Multi-Stage Paint Correction
- Opti-Coat Paint Protection
DESCRIPTION
I’ve done a few BMW 1Ms to date but this is the first Valencia Orange one I’ve worked on and I am completely in love with this colour. On first glance it looks like quite a nice metallic orange, a colour somewhat fitting for the small and angry that is the 1M. With a good correction though the paint is just unbelievable. I know BMW have done some great colours (Carbon Black etc), but I never gave this colour the credit it is due.

Here it is as presented. 2012 model that is actually quite often used for track days. It has Bilstein coilovers to give it even better handling on the track. It also slightly drops the ride height, giving it an even meaner squat look. It also has uprated brake lines etc. The rest is pretty much stock

Those awesomely chunky M wheels. Grubby from all the track work. The brake pads had pretty much been worn through from the previous day's outing at Sandown

The first of three rounds of ferrous iron remover per wheel to gnaw away all the sintered brake pad metal

Foam Wash

There was a reasonable amount of rubber scuffing and tar spotting over the car which got dealt with during the wash and decon process

Paint inspection. Light to medium swirling. Some trouble spots such as bird poo etching on the roof and also some paint touch ups on the bonnet which needed sanding down and neatening up. The owner also supplied some touch up paint so I touched up a few of the larger chips here and there. Before. Bird poo etching

After

Before

After

Bonnet Before. Some light swirling and water spotting etc

After

Prior bonnet chip touchups

Sanding with 2500 grit and then 3000 grit SIA 3 inch pads on the Rupes Mini

Corrected. Much less obvious now

Other prior chip touch ups on the bonnet

Sanded

Corrected

Plates were also removed to clean up and polish behind them

Final pics. There are one or two quite similar ones in this mix as I vascilated for about twenty mins on which ones I should pick. Ultimately in some cases I ended up including them all as the colour shift in this paint is simply stunning and you only have to move a few inches to see the hue change. So forgive me if there are one or two that seem repetitive

Here's a perfect example of the colour shift. Under warm light the gold fleck in the paint is incredibly prominent, giving the paint an extremely orange/gold look

Move the focus up a little and the hue changes to a much deeper orange/red as the light shifts to the cooler fluorescents

To the back where under all cool lighting it looks almost red

The gloss grey area also naturally got a polish as did the exhausts

Colour shift again. Not quite as pronounced on an overcast day, but still quite noticable

The wheels also got a polish and Opti-Coat
